Amber's thoughts:
This is my second time to read this series. The fourth book recently came out, and I wanted to brush up on the series before starting it. When a friend first recommended this series to me, my expectations were low. I mean, come on.The Vampire Diaries? I thought it would be a total Twilight wannabe. Turns out, this series actually came out before the Twilight series did. I was really impressed with the first book and I absolutely loved the second.

The plot will takes so many incredible twists and turns. L.J. Smith is truly a gifted writer. Her suspenseful and captivating story had me addicted to the book from the beginning. She creates mystery after mystery, drawing the reader in deeper and deeper. Just when I thought I'd figured it all out, my theory would be shattered.

This sequel is much darker than the previous book. If you're interested in adding to the to the story, I recommend reading this late at night. Parts sent shivers down my spine, and I was constantly waiting for something to jump out of the shadows and grab one of the characters.

The characters are my favorite aspect of Smith's writing. I fell in love with all of them. The loyalty and love between the group of friends is wonderful to read about. Stefan had me from the first book, and while reading the second, I grew to like Damon as well. Elena also matured in this book. Throughout the first book, I was annoyed with Elena. She was immature and selfish. That all changed in the second book, and her transformation wasn't rushed or unrealistic. Elena grew up and became a character I could admire.

This book definitely deserves five stars. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys supernatural romance, action, and mystery. Once you start this series, you'll never want to stop. At least, that's how it was for me. XD

Great review! I'm addicted to the TV series, so I'd like to read the books to get the original story.
