The missing dead call to Violet. They want to be found.

When Violet Ambrose's morbid ability to sense the echoes of those who've been murdered leads her to the body of a young boy, she draws the attention of the FBI. She is reluctantly pulled into an investigation that will endanger more than just her secret...but her relationship and possibly her life as well.

Ever since I finished The Body Finder last summer, I've been dying to read the sequel. I was thrilled when Desires of the Dead finally arrived in my mailbox, and I devoured it as quickly as I could. Part of me worried at first that I would be let down after setting such high expectations for this second book, but I was proven wrong.

Violet, the protagonist, and her devoted boyfriend Jay return to solve yet another murder mystery. If I had to make a list of my top five favorite fictional guys, Jay would definitely be one of them. What is wonderful about both Jay and Violet is that they're flawed. These flaws are exposed in their relationship throughout the novel, making the plot more realistic. One tiny, itty-bitty problem I had with Desires of the Dead  was Violet's lack of trust in Jay. She was constantly hiding things and keeping secrets bottled up inside of her, and I kept wishing that she would confide in him.

Derting was able to create another creeptastic plot. Violet's morbid ability leads her into trouble again, and Jay is dragged along with her. Spine-chilling clues are scattered throughout the story, helping the reader to piece the mystery together as Violet discovers the secrets of the dead. I was squealing with delight as my predictions were proved correct at the end of the novel.

Overall, Desires of the Dead was nearly as impressive as Derting's debut novel, The Body Finder. This series is fabulous for any dark mystery lover, as well as those who love a steamy romance.

*I received this novel from Star Book Tours
