When Brittany Ellis walks into chemistry class on the first day of senior year, she has no clue that her carefully created “perfect” life is about to unravel before her eyes. She’s forced to be lab partners with Alex Fuentes, a gang member from the other side of town, and he is about to threaten everything she's worked so hard for—her flawless reputation, her relationship with her boyfriend, and the secret that her home life is anything but perfect. Alex is a bad boy and he knows it. So when he makes a bet with his friends to lure Brittany into his life, he thinks nothing of it. But soon Alex realizes Brittany is a real person with real problems, and suddenly the bet he made in arrogance turns into something much more.

In a passionate story about looking beneath the surface, Simone Elkeles breaks through the stereotypes and barriers that threaten to keep Brittany and Alex apart. (taken from

Why on earth did I wait this long to read Perfect Chemistry? From the moment I picked it up, I knew I would love it. I stayed up late reading, devouring page after page of this heart-breakingly honest story of star-crossed lovers. I just couldn't set it down.

My first impression of Brittany was that she was perfect. She is rich, beautiful, smart, and popular. Then, as the story progresses, the fractures in her "perfect" life are exposed. Alex appears to be your classic bad boy. Tough and cocky, it seems that nothing can faze him. Then we see the darker, more vulnerable side of his life. Trapped in a world of gangs and poverty, Alex wants nothing more than to protect his family.

No one expected these two to fall in love, but they did. I love that the story is told from Alex and Brittany's alternating point of views. It gives more insight into their lives and makes them deeper, more believable characters. The dialogue is another great aspect of the novel. Alex speaks Spanish throughout the novel, as do his friends and family. Everything feels so authentic. I also appreciate the blunt honesty between Brittany and Alex. Their deep conversations make this book completely addictive.

Overall, Perfect Chemistry is a phenomenal story about self-discovery and looking past stereotypes. I was rooting for the hopeless couple the entire time. In the end, I was extremely pleased with how things worked out. This book is perfect for anyone that enjoys a passionate romance.

Great review! This is probably one of my most favorite books! I liked the alternating points of view, too. It made it more interesting being in both characters heads!
