Boys Are Better in Books: Adam Kent

"Boys Are Better in Books" aka "My book boyfriend" is hosted by Missie at The Unread Reader. This is a weekly meme in which bloggers can discuss a fictional crush. Swoon-worthy quotes and an explanation for why you chose the character are encouraged! Also, I enjoy choosing pictures that look how I imagine the character. If you want to join in this fun meme, visit Missie's blog

Adam Kent
“He smiles a small smile. His lips twitch like he's trying not to laugh. His eyes soften as they study my own.
'There's very little I wouldn't do for you.'"

Who he is: Adam is a Re-establishment solider in the post-apocalyptic world of Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. He has spent most of his life tracking down an extraordinary girl who captured his heart when they were children.

Age: 18

Hair: Dark brown

Eyes: Very blue

Description: He's lean and tall, around six feet. Being a solider has given him impressive muscles, which are covered with multiple tattoos. He is described as having a strong jawline.
His lips soften into a smile that cracks apart my spine. He repeats my name like the word amuses him. Entertains him. Delights him.

In seventeen years no one has said my name like that.

He whispers, "You have no idea how much I've thought about you. How many times I've dreamt"- he takes a tight breath- "how many times I've dreamt about being this close to you." He moves to run a hand through his hair before he changes his mind. Looks down. Looks up. "God, Juliette, I'd follow you anywhere. You're the only good thing left in this world."

I watch him walk away with the only family he has left and I know why Adam joined the army. I know why he suffered through being Warner's whipping boy. I know why he dealt with the horrifying reality of war, why he was so desparate to run away, so ready to run way as soon as possible. Why he's so determined to fight back. He's fighting for so much more than himself.

“Juliette," he whispers, and I realize just how close he is. I'm not sure why I haven't evaporated into nothingness. "It's been me and you against the world forever," he says.

"I turn around. He's pressing his fist to his mouth, trying to hid his smile, trying to stop the words from tumbling out of his lips. I touch the material. Decide I should probably say something. "It's very...comfortable."

I look up. He's shaking his head. "It's sexy as hell."

He steps forward. Slips me into his arms.

"I look like a gymnast," I mumble.

"No", he whispers, hot hot hot against my lips. "You look like a superhero."

Gahhhhhh he is so amazing. Seriously, my heart was doing flips the entire book. I would recommend Shatter Me to anyone simply because Adam is a main character. The fabulous writing and other awesome characters make it even more of a must read! I chose Colton Haynes to represent Adam.
