The Final Frontier: YA Literature in Space

Over the years, young adult literature has gone through several different "phases."

With the explosion of supernatural romance that accompanied Twilight's popularity, dark but beautiful creatures such as vampires, werewolves, angels, and others populated almost every story.

After readers began to tire of the forbidden romances, authors began to construct stories that mimicked the intensity and creativity of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games. Post-apocalyptic literature boomed. Now, there are dozens upon dozens of futuristic rebellion stories on bookshelves.

As far as I'm concerned, science fiction is making a comeback. I've seen several upcoming novels that take place in the one setting that has seen little action in young adult literature: space. From aliens visiting our own planet to worlds far from Earth, authors are beginning to explore this new and intriuging phase.
